Let’s continue our Year of Substance series! Today we share some of our favorite film-related stories of 2020. As you will see, the variety of works in which the Substance toolset is used always fascinates us. From blockbuster feature films, binge-worthy sci-fi series, cinematics, music clips, and VR experiences, check out the different ways the Substance tools are used in the industry.

Star Wars: Episode IX – ILM uses the Force of Substance

It was hugely exciting to find out that the Death Star was one of the elements textured with Substance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The ILM team in Singapore ramped up their texturing pipeline by integrating the Substance Automation Toolkit (SAT), batch texturing hundreds, if not thousands, of assets at a time.

Yoann Lemoine, aka Woodkid, is the kind of guy who is just good at everything he turns his hand to. Initially working in motion design, he started directing music videos and eventually producing music himself. An all-round creator, he tells us more about his love for all things procedural.
